bring packed lunches and blankets. 11am – free play at the adventure playground! 12pm – dpdc introductions this is your chance to introduce your family to everyone and learn about everyone at the event. in your introduction we’d like you to introduce your family to the group, tell everyone what’s on your mind right now (this could be schools, statements, interpreter support, ci’s, hearing aids etc!). this is so people can introduce themselves to you if they feel they have information to share or if they are in the same boat and are looking for support. 1pm – 2.30pm – picnic lunch (bring your own!) 3pm – walk to bowood house for group fun and games we will all walk to bowood house for some group fun and games next to the beautiful lake. if you have bags, picnic chairs etc, we recommend that you return them to the car before the walk starts at 3pm. 4-5pm – waterfall and cave stroll this is a big favourite, as a group we will explore part of the grounds, who will be brave enough this year to walk through the pitch black caves? 6pm – gate closes! continue reading dpdc camping 2017 @ wowo campsite – report! 20/11/2017 10:54 pm dpdc events , dpdc news 0 comments this year’s camping took place at the at the beautiful and deaf-friendly, families only wowo campsite in uckfield, east sussex . there were a record 26 kids in total. it’s a campsite entirely built around creating a special experience for families. dpdc had its own pitch reserved, with all tents circled around a big firepit, meaning we had our own private bsl space. on friday all the families set up their tents while the kids explored the wonderful campsite, which has its own woods, a pretty brook running through it and loads of opportunities for climbing, rope swinging and running around making for plenty of imaginary play! the roaring campfires every evening were a big treat for kids and parents alike. on saturday morning all the kids got together to celebrate a birthday and enjoyed ‘sports day’ themed games. after lunch, all the kids were enrolled in a 4-hour bushcraft workshop, where through a bsl interpreter they learnt survival skills such as how to find food, how to build a shelter, make a fire and find their way home! this was all made possible by a kind grant from the british deaf association . thank you, bda! continue reading weekly deaf tennis sessions for all deaf kids at gosling sports park 23/09/2017 2:11 pm dpdc events 0 comments the weekly gosling sports park deaf tennis sessions for all deaf kids have been running for a few years now! 04/09/2017 1:04 pm dpdc events 0 comments on saturday 8th of july returned to bowood for the fifth time, and what a fantastic day it was! hidden in the rolling hills of wiltshire, the bowood estate boasts one of the best adventure playgrounds in the country. a life-size pirate ship complete with rigging and a crows nest as well as a ‘space dive’ which featured giant slides aptly called the ‘slide of death’, chutes, trampolines, and high-level rope walks. the kids were let loose while the parents caught up on the latest news and got acquainted with new friends. after lunch, we all went for a lovely walk by the glorious lake to the old temple and visited the caves, which were quite spooky – needless to say the kids loved walking into pitch darkness! we all came out to a view of the beautiful waterfall. it was a lovely day to see the children making new friends and playing with each other so effortlessly, and for the parents to get together and chat knowing that they had so many things in common to talk about. thank you to all the families who came along, especially those who came from afar. next years event will take place on saturday 7th july 2018. join the facebook event page and let us know if you’re coming!
